0:05 Good morning, and thank you for coming. Performing the National Anthem today from the 100 Club of Illinois is Stephanie Zielinski. Oh, say can you see on earth what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
0:41 Whose broad stripes and white stars Through the perilous fight O'er the ramps were so gallantly streaming That our flag was still there
1:16 O say our spangled banner O'er the land To offer today's invocation,
1:50 Father Ryan Brady of the Chicago Fire Department. God, our merciful and loving Father, today we remember that dreadfully painful day, September the 11th, 2001, a day when great evil was inflicted upon our nation, bringing death, suffering, and sorrow to so many.
2:21 Yet, Lord, may we also remember September the 11th as a day when the very best of humanity was revealed. In the midst of fear and destruction, we remember the countless men and women who responded with extraordinary selflessness and heroism. We remember Wells Crowther, the man in the red bandana, who returned to peril again and again to help others to safety. We remember Benjamin Clark, a chef who saved countless lives and was last seen on the 88th floor of the South Tower.
3:01 carrying a woman in a wheelchair down flights of stairs. We remember American Airlines flight attendant Betty Young, who from an on-board phone alerted authorities that a terrorist attack was taking place, then spent 25 minutes on that phone providing ongoing critical information. We remember, Lord, the courageous passengers and crew of United Flight 93 who gave their lives to prevent our national tragedy from becoming even more catastrophic.
3:35 We remember Brothers FDNY Firefighter John and NYPD Police Officer Joe Vigiano. We remember Firefighter Vernon Paul Cherry and Officer Moira Smith. We remember Chaplain Father Michael Judge, who was killed while sharing your love and ministering to the wounded and dying. We remember so many more, Lord, who gave their lives while courageously performing their duty.
4:07 Lord, we remember all those whose acts of heroism and kindness that day made brothers and sisters of strangers while offering one another assistance, care, and love. We pray today for all who died that day 25 years ago. We pray for their families and loved ones who continue to mourn their loss. May all who died rest in the peace of your embrace, O Lord, and may their families know the comfort of your presence.
4:42 We give you thanks for the firefighters, paramedics, police officers, military members, and ordinary citizens who ran toward danger. May their courage and sacrifice never be forgotten, and may it always inspire. fire. We ask you, Lord God, to protect our nation from hatred, violence, and division. Give wisdom to our leaders, strength to those who serve, and peace to our world. May we
5:17 never forget the evil of September the 11th, 2001, but may we remember even more deeply the courage, selflessness, and love of neighbor that rose in response to it. And Lord, may we remember also who we were on September the 12th, 2001, who we were as a country, as people, and as a family. May we strive again as a nation
5:48 to recover that same spirit of unity, compassion, and love for one another. we entrust these things of our hearts Lord God to your sacred and loving heart as we pray as brothers and sisters Amen
10:00 In the great state of Illinois, we are here to celebrate 25 years of devastation that happened near 25 years ago, where a terrorist attack took down two towers, and took away 343 FDNY firemen. The Chicago Fire Department code of signals, 335, indicates the company has returned home. However this is for the FDNY celebratory, it's all ringing, and their code of signals
10:36 is 5555, and this is what we're going to do right now. Thanks for a moment of silence, remembering our brothers and sisters, our firefighters
11:52 and paramedics working their 24-hour platoon today, and also our Chicago police officers, Cook County sheriffs, and state police, and also our military, overseas, fighting for our way of life and our way of freedom.
16:34 Thank you everyone for coming. This now concludes our ceremony. CFD Uniform members are asked to remain in place.
