Hall, Sigcho-López and Reilly all filed. The Board's list answers the questions we raised about six Council races

The 13th and 19th wards, both open, each drew a third candidate on the last day. The open 22nd has one. In the 6th and 25th, the incumbents filed on Monday afternoon.

Yesterday we looked at the three open City Council seats and three wards where the sitting alderperson's filing was not yet in the Board of Election Commissioners' receipts. The Board's candidate filing report, printed after filing closed Monday, fills in all six.

Why it matters: open seats are where new members are most likely to join the Council, and in the wards with short lists, one petition challenge before the Nov. 2 deadline could decide what voters see on Feb. 23.

The three open seats

13th Ward (Ald. Marty Quinn, leaving). Three candidates: Al Cacciottolo and Skyler Cepek, both on our list, plus Keith M. Judge, who filed at 12:53 p.m. Monday. Our counts of filled signature lines: Cacciottolo 3,415, Cepek 614, against a 473 minimum. Cacciottolo and Cepek both filed at 9 a.m. on Oct. 19, so a lottery decides which of them comes first.

19th Ward (Ald. Matt O'Shea, leaving). Three candidates: Erin Healy Ross (3,569 lines), Jillian Robinson (662) and Bob Murphy, who filed at 1:17 p.m. Monday.

22nd Ward (Ald. Michael Rodriguez, leaving). One candidate: Elianne "Ely" Bahena, 2,283 lines. Unless a write-in candidate files by Dec. 24 or an objection removes her, she will be alone on the ballot.

The three wards we flagged

6th Ward. Ald. William E. Hall filed at 2:39 p.m. Monday, the report shows. He faces Allyson Renee Scrutchens, who filed Oct. 20 (1,386 lines by our count), and Curtiss S. Llong Bey, who filed Monday afternoon. Hall's record this term: 100% attendance on key roll calls and with the majority on 89.1% of divided votes, according to his ward page.

25th Ward. Ald. Byron Sigcho-López filed at 5 p.m. Monday, in the last hour, along with two other candidates, so the three will draw for the later ballot spots. With Aida Flores (2,515 lines), Leonardo "Leo" Quintero (1,835), Ian Watkins (495) and Chula C Ortiz, who filed Monday afternoon, the 25th has seven candidates, the most of any ward. Sigcho-López has attended every key roll call this term and voted with the majority on 84.8% of divided votes, his ward page shows.

42nd Ward. Ald. Brendan Reilly filed at 9 a.m. on Oct. 19, the first moment of filing; but his receipt was not among the copies we had received. A challenger, Deborah Lane, filed at 5 p.m. Monday. Reilly has filed 194 pieces of legislation this term, more than three times the Council median of 58, and voted with the majority on 74.7% of divided votes, according to his ward page.

What our records add

Our ward race pages are built from the Board's receipts for nominating papers, and they list 85 of the 140 aldermanic candidates on Monday's report. Each candidate above with a link already has our signature count; the others will be added as their receipts and petition copies arrive. Those counts are filled-in signature lines on the petition copy the Board provided, not the Board's count of valid signatures, which it makes only if someone objects.

For every ward's field, see our story on the 140 candidates, and for the 11 wards with one name, the uncontested races.

What's next

  • Nov. 2: objections due at the Board's office, 69 W. Washington St., Suite 800, the Board said.
  • By Nov. 4: ballot-position lotteries, under the Board's calendar.
  • Dec. 17: ballot certified. Dec. 24: write-in deadline.
