2027 Chicago Municipal Election
All 50 City Council seats, plus Mayor, City Clerk and City Treasurer, are on the ballot. Elections are nonpartisan. If no candidate wins more than 50% of the vote in February, the top two advance to the April runoff.
- General election: Tuesday, February 23, 2027
- Runoff (if no candidate wins a majority): Tuesday, April 6, 2027
Key dates
- May 15, 2023: Current Council term began. Members elected in 2023 were sworn in.
- Date to be announced: Nominating petitions due. Candidate filing typically takes place in late November before a February municipal election. Confirm exact dates with the Board of Elections.
- Feb 23, 2027: Municipal general election. All 50 wards.
- Apr 6, 2027: Runoff election. Only in wards where no candidate won a majority.
- May 17, 2027: New Council term expected to begin. Inauguration date set by ordinance; confirm when announced.
