# The Board's list of 2027 objections is due today. Its website is still unreachable, and no ward-level challenges have been reported

*Reporting covers objections to at least 12 of 16 mayoral candidates. For Council, clerk, treasurer and police district council races, we have found nothing yet. Here's what our petition counts can and can't tell you while we wait.*

Today is the day the Board of Election Commissioners said it would post the full list of objections to 2027 candidates' nominating papers. We couldn't check. Every request we made to the Board's website, chicagoelections.gov, returned an access error Wednesday morning, the last at 9:47 a.m. Chicago time. We also couldn't reach it Monday or Tuesday. As of this writing, we have also found no news coverage of the posted list.

Why it matters: an objection the Board sustains takes a candidate off the Feb. 23 ballot. In the mayor's race, at least 12 of 16 candidates face challenges, according to reporting. For the 50 Council races, the clerk, the treasurer and the police district councils, nothing has been reported, so voters in most wards still don't know whether their candidates' papers are being challenged.

This follows [our Tuesday story](/on-my-block/chicago-2027-mayor-objections-filed-johnson-mendoza-kelly-board-list-wednesday) on the mayoral objections.

## What's been reported so far

The window to object closed at 5 p.m. Monday. A Board spokesperson said the full list would go up on the Board's website Wednesday, after the election, [Block Club Chicago reported](https://blockclubchicago.org/2026/11/02/johnson-other-candidates-face-challenges-to-nominating-petitions-for-mayors-race/). Coverage so far is about the mayor's race:

- **Mayor Brandon Johnson:** former state Sen. Rickey Hendon, filing for Willie Wilson's campaign, alleges photocopied signatures, unregistered circulators, signers from outside Chicago and pages from another candidate's petitions, the [Sun-Times](https://chicago.suntimes.com/elections/2026/11/02/willie-wilson-petition-challenges-mayor-brandon-johnson-signatures-mayoral-election) and [NBC Chicago](https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/chicago-mayor-brandon-johnsons-reelection-petitions-officially-challenged/4010948/) reported. These are a rival campaign's allegations; the Electoral Board hasn't ruled. Johnson's campaign says it has more than enough signatures, Block Club reported.
- **Susana Mendoza and John Kelly** filed against each other, the Sun-Times reported.
- **Alexi Giannoulias, Mike Quigley and Maria Pappas** face a challenge from William Quinlan over running for two offices. All three won re-election Tuesday; [our story](/on-my-block/giannoulias-quigley-pappas-win-november-3-mayor-race-objection-hearings-next).
- Objections were also reported against Quinlan, Zoe Ma, Lisa Nee, Danielle Carter-Walters, Jesse Maronto and John Kitover.

We have found no reporting on objections in any ward race. That doesn't mean none were filed.

## What our records add

Our [objections page](https://www.chicagopolitics.org/elections/2027/objections) still lists none, because it is filled from what the Board publishes. It will update when the Board's list is reachable, and we'll follow up then.

Until then, here's what our petition counts can and can't tell you:

- **Council races.** Our [candidate list](https://www.chicagopolitics.org/elections/2027/alderman-candidates) has a count for 137 of the 140 people the Board lists as Council candidates. These are line counts of the petition copies we have, not valid-signature counts. A low count on an incomplete copy, where our scan has fewer readable sheets than the Board's receipt lists, says little about the real filing. Every sitting alderperson who filed turned in at least twice the 473-signature minimum on our count, [as we reported Monday](/on-my-block/chicago-2027-objections-due-monday-petition-counts-137-council-candidates).
- **Mayor.** On our [mayor's race page](https://www.chicagopolitics.org/elections/2027/mayor), Johnson has 31,904 lines on a complete copy of 3,301 pages. A line count can't tell whether a line is a photocopy or a signer from outside the city, which is what the objection alleges. Only the Board's check against voter records can.

## How it works from here

Under the Board's [2027 pamphlet](https://cboeprod.blob.core.usgovcloudapi.net/prod/2026-06/2027%20Election%20Calendar-ADOPTED.pdf), the Board sits as the Electoral Board to hear each objection. Where signatures are disputed, staff compare challenged lines with voter registration records, and both sides can contest the results. A losing side can ask a Cook County judge for review.

## What's next

- **Today:** the Board's list is expected. We'll keep trying the site.
- **Mon., Nov. 9:** the hearing process begins, the Board told NBC Chicago.
- **Dec. 17:** last day for candidates to withdraw; the Board certifies the ballot.
- **Dec. 24:** last day for write-in candidates to file.
