So the headlines, don't hold back from nature. In September of 2024 for farming, a viral Highway, that could spark the next pandemic, say scientists. Study in China finds viruses. That could infect, people are rampant in farms, breeding mink, raccoon dogs and foxes for their fur. In the Journal of Science in September of 2024 animals, farmed for for Harbor, dozens of concerning viruses, study of Chinese fur industry reveals risk of new outbreaks that may threaten humans from the times worrying new lung infecting mink virus. Poses, pandemic risk, say scientists From September 10th 2024, a worrying new coronavirus with pandemic. Potential has been detected in minks. A new study says, according to the research a fur Farm investigation in in China, led to the discovery of a new bat, virus known as HK u5 in the lungs of minks that had died from a pneumonia outbreak. Of course, there's the suffering of more than 100 million, beautiful wild animals, a year in the United States. It's 2025 and synthetic. Man-made materials are superior in warmth and quality to the Pelt of a tortured animal. in this month of love, I hope you'll show a little love and compassion for These sentient beings who uh, suffer so much for so-called fashion and we hope that this Humane and Common Sense, measure passes soon. And I think you for your time and consideration, Thank you. Our next speaker is are sulamani. I hope I pronounced that correctly. I'm speaking today in support of the ordinance to ban fur in Chicago. In recent years, the city of Chicago has banned the sale of dogs cats and rabbits protecting them from the cruel exploitation of the pet industry. We've also banned the use of horse, carriages protecting horses from overwork, and danger on the road, and these decisions are commendable. Uh, they take steps toward a world, where animals can live the peaceful free lives that everyone deserves. However, there's still more work to do if we want to create a Chicago that treats animals ethically That's why the firbon ordinance is so important fur can only be obtained from slaughtering animals and of course this is inherently violent but the actual practices of the fur industry are especially brutal. The fur industry operates in 1 of 2 ways. Most of the time animals are bred on farms and can find to dinghy filthy cages where they stir in distress and panic, until they're anally electrocuted and skinned, sometimes while they're still alive. Other times they're trapped in the wild where the Contraptions dig into their limbs mutilate them and restrain them until Trappers return to bash their skulls or shoot them dead. All of this injury distress suffering and death is inflicted just for clothing items. That could be made with other materials. It's needless violence. The fur industry also devastates, the environment in 2020 Chicago, declared a climate emergency fur farms and other intensive. Animal farming operations, are 1 of the leading causes of this environmental crisis. According to men meta-analysis from published by the scientific journal Frontiers in animal science. The author's advised that the sector be prohibited entirely since the effect was quote, inherent and trapping wild animals for their fur. Incurs other equally, damaging forms of environmental harm. Including the near collapse of environmental engineer species, like the North American Beaver, disturbing ecosystems in this way, enhances the damage of climate change. And lastly, fur Farms create and rapidly spread. Zunic pandemics like Co 19 as confirmed in the leading scientific journal Nature. Chicagoans were devastated by Co 19. We must protect prevent Future, pandemics, by any means. We have this includes no longer enabling the industries that caused them like for When we allow the sale of fur products in this city, we allow more funding and support to go to these practices. The ban on puppy mills and horse carriages shows that Chicagoans do not support this violence. We want a city that lives up to its values and shuts the door to animal abusing Industries like fur, The state of California has already banned, fur entirely, and 25 countries have banned for farming. It's time for us to join the right side of History, so please help make Chicago a more Humane sustainable and sanitary Place support the forban ordinance. Thank you. Thank you.
