# Chicago City Council committees

Legislation introduced at City Council is referred to one of 22 committees and subcommittees, which hold hearings and recommend whether the full Council should pass it. Items that never get a committee vote stay "in committee". Backlog counts non-routine items introduced this term that are still waiting.
